‘ Love, Simon ’, diferențe carte – adaptare

Mi-a fost dor de o carte pe care s-o savurez și pe care s-o termin în câteva zile. Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda a fost lansată în urmă cu 3 ani, în aprilie 2015, și tare-mi pare rău că n-am citit-o chiar atunci. Cartea reprezintă debutul literar al scriitoarei Becky Albertalli și ne face cunoștință cu Simon, un adolescent așa cum am fost toți, cu o viață așa cum avem toți, perfect normală. Însă Simon are un secret care îl împiedică să trăiască din tot sufletul.

EN: I missed reading a book that I would totally love and that I would finish in just a few days. Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda was published 3 years ago, in April 2015, and I regret that I didn’t read it right back then. This is the debut novel of Becky Albertalli and it tells the story of Simon, a teenager like all of us, with a life like we all have, perfectly normal. But Simon has a secret that doesn’t allow him to fully live.

Am terminat de citit ultimul capitol al romanului chiar azi dimineață, iar după-amiaza am rezervat-o filmului, căci după cum probabil știți, acest roman a fost adaptat sub regia lui Greg Berlanti. Filmul păstrează destul de mult din ceea ce se întâmplă în carte, cu același rezultat, însă firul narativ e puțin modificat (vedeți diferențele majore mai jos). Însă în rolul principal este Nick Robinson (îl știam deja din filmele Jurassic World, The 5th Wave și Everything, Everything) care reușește să facă un rol amuzant, ușor de iubit și trist când e nevoie. Nu e filmul perfect, dar e un film pe care cu siguranță l-aș recomanda oricui, în special tinerilor. Când am fost eu adolescentă, poveștile astea nu erau așa des (și ușor) de întâlnit/citit/privit. Suntem pe un drum bun, din punctul ăsta de vedere. Pelicula păstrează, așadar, umorul și momentele emoționante și cheie din carte, storcându-mi destule lacrimi în a doua jumătate, dar și multe zâmbete în cele aproape 2 ore. Din distribuție mai fac parte și Jennifer Garner, Josh Duhamel, Katherine Langford, Alexandra Shipp, Logan Miller și Keiynan Lonsdale.

EN: I actually finished the last chapter of the book this morning, and then I reserved my afternoon to watch the movie, because as you probably know, the book was adapted and directed by Greg Berlanti. The script of the movie keeps most of what happens in the book, with the same end, but it does have some differences (you can find the major ones down below). The main role is played by Nick Robinson (who I already knew from other movies like Jurassic World, The 5th Wave and Everything, Everything) and he does a funny, easy to love, and sad-when-neccesary role. It is not the perfect movie, but it is a movie that I would recommend to anyone, especially to teengers. When I was a teenger, these stories were not so often encountered and/or not so easy to read or watch. We are on a good path with this matter. The movie keeps the humor and the emotional and most important scenes that are in the book, and it made me cry in the second half, but it made me smile as well from start to finish. The cast is also comprising of Jennifer Garner, Josh Duhamel, Katherine Langford, Alexandra Shipp, Logan Miller, and Keiynan Lonsdale.

Am realizat că nu v-am spus exact despre ce este vorba, așa că o s-o fac doar în câteva cuvinte. Simon e gay și ăsta e cel mai mare secret al lui. Simon se teme să le spună părinților sau prietenilor sau pur și simplu să-și îmbrățișeze realitatea din cauza fricii de a fi respins de societate sau din cauza fricii de schimbare. Simon ajunge să fie șantajat și împins să facă anumite greșeli. Deznodământul îl aflați la cinema, acolo unde îmi doresc să fie doar săli pline. Nu că m-ar deranja dacă ați citi și cartea înainte.

EN: I realized that I didn’t tell you exactly what this book/movie is about, so I’ll do it now in just a few words. Simon is gay and this is his biggest secret. Simon fears to tell anybody or to fully embrace his reality because he is afraid not to be rejected by the society and because he is afraid to change. Simon gets blackmailed and pushed to make bad choices. You will find out what happens at the end if you go to see the movie (or if you buy it). And I won’t be upset if you read the book first, too.

I deserve a great love story.

SPOILER! Diferențe majore dintre carte și film:

Simon primește o mașină de ziua lui, dar în carte Simon nici nu conduce;
în film, sora lui cea mică e pasionată de gătit, iar cea mare nu există;
în carte, nu se uită niciodată pe geam după băieți și cu siguranță nu glumește cu niciun vecin;
tot în carte, nicun profesor nu le interzice folosirea telefoanelor pe holurile liceului (e un mesaj bun îmbrăcat într-o glumă simpatică);
doar în film, Simon și tatăl lui lucrează la un proiect special pentru celebrarea celor 20 de ani de căsnicie ai părinților lui;
adresa de e-mail a lui Simon diferă de cea pe care o are în carte;
tot în carte, cel pasionat de Oreo este Simon, nu iubitul secret;
doar în film Simon merge acasă la Martin;
în roman, iubitul secret este primul care semnează e-mailurile cu “Love,”, nu Simon;
Martin nu face nicio declarație în carte, cel puțin nu la nivelul celei din film;
Leah nu are sentimente pentru Simon decât în film.

Simon gets a car for his birthday, but in the book he doesn’t even drive;
in the movie, his little sister loves to cook, and his big sister doesn’t exist;
in the book, he never daydreams about any guy and he definitely doesn’t make jokes with his neighbour;
in the book, no professor tells the students not to use their phones on the highschool’s corridors (it is a good message packed in a funny joke);
just in the movie, Simon and his dad work on a project that marks the 20th anniversary of their parents;
Simon’s e-mail address is different than the one in the book;
in the book, Simon is the one that loves Oreos, not his secret lover;
just in the movie, Simon visits Martin’s home;
in the book, Simon’s secret lover is the one that starts ending the e-mails with “Love,”;
Martin doesn’t have such a big moment confesing his love in the book;
Leah doesn’t have feelings for Simon in the book.
