I truly enjoyed Creed III, the last chapter of the successful boxing franchise. Although I don’t see the point in creating a trilogy/franchise/ten-part-movies for some stories, I think here it works. Especially as an IMAX experience, you can really feel the punches thrown by Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors which is really what you want from this kind of movie.
This is the first movie in the franchise, started way back with the Rocky Balboa movies, that does not feature Sylvester Stallone (and I think there’s a bit of a drama behind that we better not get into). In Creed III, the past is haunting Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) when Damian Anderson (Jonathan Majors) is coming back into his life. Damian’s presence is bringing up feelings that Adonis tried to lock away in his subconscious, but the biggest problem starts when Damian shows his true face and we learn his real endgame.
Marking his directorial debut, Michael B. Jordan does a great job with being the star of the movie and the master behind the camera. I loved the cinematography, and the beautiful cinematic metaphors that they’ve played with in the big fight sequence at the end.
The overall vibe of the movie is the same as it was 8 years ago when the franchise first started. I think the emotions were heightened in the beginning because of how the script brought in a fan-favourite, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), and how it tied the previous story with the new character and the new universe of the boxing adventure.
Kudos to the cast members, from the main star to the bad guy that is Jonathan Majors, the beautiful Tessa Thompson (back as Creed’s love interest, Bianca), Phylicia Rashad, and the sweet Mila Davis-Kent (Amara Creed).
Bianca Creed is always there for Adonis, and the portrayal of their family dynamic is just beautiful, very raw and natural, it stuck with me for some reason.
I spent the last seven years living out my wildest dreams. Bianca. Rocky. My dad. This is built on their shoulders.
I do recommend watching this movie in IMAX if possible. I kind of forgot what a nice experience IMAX can be, and I wanna do it again soon. Thanks are in order for Warner Bros. UK and MGM for the fun, the movie, and the popcorn! 😊
